t.Ker.1.9
A. She who aborts during the days of purifying is exempt from all [offerings].
B. The House of Shammai [BCE1] and the House of Hillel [BCE1] concur in the case of one who sees a drop of blood on the night of the eighty-first day, that the blood is unclean.
C. And she who aborts on the eighty-first day should be liable for an offering [from the perspective of the House of Hillel [BCE1], M.Ker.1.6A, C].
D. Said the House of Hillel [BCE1] to the House of Shammai [BCE1], ``Do you not agree in the case of the woman who sees a drop of blood on the night of the eighty-first day, that her blood is unclean [M.Ker.1.6J-K]?
E. ``Then she who aborts on the eighty-first day should be liable to an offering.
F. ``For what difference does it make to me whether it is day or night, or whether it is blood or a birth [M.Ker.1.6D]?``
G. Said to them the House of Shammai [BCE1], ``No. If you have stated the rule in regard to the day, which is fitting for the bringing of an offering, will you state it in regard to the night, which is not fitting for bringing an offering
[M.Ker.1.6F]?
H. ``As to blood to which you referred, distinguish between blood and birth.
I. ``For she who sees blood during the days of purifying-her blood is clean.
J. ``And she who aborts during the days of purifying-her blood is unclean.
K. ``She who aborts during the days of purifying is free of all [offering]
[M.Ker.1.6B].``
L. Said to them the House of Hillel [BCE1], ``Now, lo, she who aborts on the eighty- first day which coincides with the Sabbath will prove the matter. For it did not go forth at a time which is fitting to bring an offering [M.Ker.1.6G- H].
M. ``And this will prove [that] she who aborts on the night of the eighty-first, any day of the year,
N. ``for thus did it go forth at a time that is fitting to bring an offering, is liable for an offering.``
O. Said to them the House of Shammai [BCE1], ``No. If you have so stated in connection with her who aborts on the eighty-first day, any day of the year, which is joined together with the day which follows it,
P. so that even though it is not fitting for an offering of an individual, it is fitting for an offering of the community,
Q. ``will you say so in the case of her who aborts on the night of the eighty- first day of any day of the year, for the night is not fitting either for the offering of an individual or for the offering of the community [M.Ker.1.61]?``
R. Said to them the House of Hillel [BCE1], ``Lo, you have yourselves said that the night joins together with the day which follows it.
S. ``So just as she is liable for what happens on the day of the eighty-first, so should she be liable for what happens on the night of the eighty-first.
T. ``And let not the day of the eighty-second prove anything, for at that point it [the abortion] has gone forth at a time at which it is fitting to bring an offering.``
