Artakama
Artakama1, daughter of Artabazus, a grandson of king Artaxerxes II, satrap of Daskyleion under Artaxerxes III and Darius III, satrap of Bactria under Alexander2. Her mother is not specifically stated but was probably the only known wife of Artabazus, an anonymous sister of the Rhodian generals Memnon and Mentor, who were in Persian service in the late 340s and the 330s3. She was the second wife of Ptolemy I, whom she married in April 3244. If she was ever repudiated, this probably occurred on the death of Alexander5. Ptolemy had no known children by Artakama.
[1] PP VI 14494 = PP VI 14487, Gr: Artakama. Arrian Anabasis 7.4.6. Plutarch (Eumenes 1.3) calls her Apama (Apama), evidently in confusion with Apama, daughter of Spitamenes, who married Seleucus I. Similarly he names her sister Artonis, the wife of Eumenes, as Barsine, presumably in confusion with Barsine the mistress of Alexander or Barsine the wife of Nearchus. Since Arrian drew on Ptolemy I's memoirs, his evidence is to be preferred. Ý
[2] Arrian Anabasis 7.4.6. On the career of Artabazus see W. Judeich, RE II 1299f. (3). Ý
[3] Diodorus 16.52.4 states that she was the mother of 11 sons and 10 daughters, a little extreme though not absolutely impossible, and might rather suggest that there were other women in Artabazus' life. Ý
[4] Arrian Anabasis 7.4.6. So far as I can determine, the date is fixed by dead reckoning through the seasons backwards from Alexander's death. Ý
