	This historical study, which includes a major chapter on marriage as a contract in the ancient Near East, concludes that: (1) Both Jesus and Paul condemn divorce without valid grounds and discourage divorce even for valid grounds; (2) both Jesus and Paul affirm the OT grounds for divorce; (3) the OT allows divorce for adultery and for neglect or abuse; (4) both Jesus and Paul condemn remarriage after an invalid divorce, but not after a valid divorce. - A fully annotated scholarly study.
